I had a ton of fun writing these series of short stories. I loved diving deep into different characters and giving them voices and develop their stories.
Child of Providence is the backstory of Ruccis. I've always wanted to write their story, and how they became a group working together to help bring prophecies to pass. Child of Sparrow was the second of the short story collections I wrote. I've always loved Sage and Aileen's love story, and there were flashbacks of their romance in Child of Beauty. This was super fun to write and flush out. Child of Beasts was a story I've wanted to write for over ten years. This is my role reversal Beauty and the Beast story. It is also the story of Wren and Kerwin, who are featured in Child of Magic. In the book series, Kerwin and Jeff leave to reunite with Wren at the end of Child of Destiny, and when their story comes back at the end of Child of Promise, the family is back together on Najos. Child of Beasts addresses the reunion as well as the prequal love story. Child of Love tells the story of Rose Kender. These short stories tell what happened between Child of Magic and Child of Love. I was super sad I never got to explore her love and relationship with Jenkin in the books. So these short stories have their love story in it. Child of Power is Lili's story. Since Child of Magic is told in Fia's point of view, the reader misses almost all of Filia's scenes. This story includes a couple very important Filia and Lili scenes, and it goes on to explain what she did after Child of Magic and before she's brought back in Child of Hope. Child of Royalty explores more of Bree's story, including when she and her mother return to Liad and reunite with her grandfather. I really wanted that scene in one of the books, but that story never fit in the books. So, I was very excited to have an opportunity to write these stories. Child of Family was my favorite of all the short story collections to write. My very first version of Oliver was different than he later turned into. When I rewrote Child of Prophecy, Oliver's character drastically changed. He also became a more dynamic and fun character to write. His redemption story was one of my favorite storylines in the series, and I never imagined I'd pair him up with Rickie. But as I wrote Child of Redemption, it made more and more sense to pair the two. It was really fun to revisit Oliver from Child of Prophecy and write his turning point. Children of Prophecy tells what happens with the future of all the the characters and families in the Prophecy Series. This was great to write and create families, friendships, deaths, sickness, jobs, and romance between the different generations. |
