I had so much fun writing these short story collections. I loved being able to dive deeper into different characters, give them their own voices, and really develop their stories in ways I couldn’t always fit into the main novels.

Child of Providence tells the backstory of Ruccis. I’d always wanted to explore how they came together as a group and how they started working to help bring the prophecies to pass.

Child of Sparrow was the second collection I wrote, and it focuses on Sage and Aileen’s love story. I’ve always loved their romance, and readers get little flashbacks of it in Child of Beauty. Getting to fully flesh it out was so much fun.

Child of Beasts is a story I’d wanted to write for over ten years. It’s my role-reversal take on Beauty and the Beast and tells the love story of Wren and Kerwin, who appear in Child of Magic. In the main series, Kerwin and Jeff leave to reunite with Wren at the end of Child of Destiny, and when we see them again at the end of Child of Promise, the family is back together on Najos. Child of Beasts covers both their reunion and the prequel love story.

Child of Love focuses on Rose Kender. These stories fill in what happens between Child of Magic and her later appearances. I was always sad I didn’t get to fully explore her relationship with Jenkin in the main books — so these short stories finally tell their love story.

Child of Power is Lili’s story. Since Child of Magic is told from Fia’s point of view, readers miss almost all of Filia’s scenes. This collection includes some really important moments between Filia and Lili and shows what Lili does after Child of Magic and before she returns in Child of Hope.

Child of Royalty dives deeper into Bree’s life — especially when she and her mother return to Liad and reunite with her grandfather. I always wanted that scene in the main books, but it never quite fit, so I was thrilled to finally write it here.

Child of Family ended up being my favorite collection to write. Oliver’s character went through huge changes when I rewrote Child of Prophecy, and he became one of the most dynamic and fun characters in the series. His redemption arc is one of my favorites — and I never planned to pair him with Rickie, but as I wrote Child of Redemption, it just made more and more sense. It was really meaningful to revisit Oliver from the beginning and write the moment where everything changes for him.

Children of Prophecy looks into the future of the characters and families from the entire series. Writing it was such a joy — creating new generations, friendships, romances, careers, hardships, and seeing how everything unfolded over time.
