This book was inspired by the show Supernatural — but with a Christian twist.
Originally, I planned to write it as a series of seven novellas, starting with one called The Beginning. About ten years ago, I wrote roughly forty-one pages — just over 10,000 words — of that first installment. Then the story sat in my “someday” pile for years. I always wondered why I wasn’t writing it, until I finally realized it was because it wasn’t meant to be a bunch of novellas — it was meant to be a full novel. Once I made that shift, everything clicked, and it was absolutely the right decision. There were also two scenes I’d had in my head for over a decade. I would literally “watch” them play out as I was falling asleep, over and over again, because the story wasn’t written yet. Those scenes were: Jenny overhearing Alex tell his mom about Lukas’s conversion to Christ (Chapter 14), and James and Evan discovering Jenny’s true identity (Chapter 30). Once I finally wrote the book, those scenes finally left my brain — but not for long. I now have new scenes that I “watch” on repeat as I fall asleep, this time from a future book called Dana Mont, the second book in Soulmates Trilogy. It hasn’t been written yet (and probably won’t be for many years), but apparently my imagination has already decided to start the movie previews anyway. Before the novella idea, I had an even older version of the story called Hybrid. Over time, most of the characters went through name changes. The only ones who kept their first names (but not last names) were Alex and Todd. And the only character whose name never changed at all was Jenny Doe — though her human name evolved. And when I realized Halloween 2023 fell on a Tuesday, I was ridiculously excited to publish my Christian vampire novel on Halloween itself. It felt like the perfect release date. |
