The past five years of my life have been pretty crazy. In August 2015, I started an online Bachelor’s degree and graduated in December 2016. After taking a semester off, I began my Master’s program in June 2017 and finished in May 2018 — the same month I found out I was pregnant and became a Youth Services Librarian. May 2018 was huge for me!
The last book I published was Mysterious Warriors: Redemption in November 2016, and even though I’d written two more books since then, both sat in the editing phase for years. I worked on them here and there over the next three and a half years, but writing just wasn’t my main focus during that time. Eventually, I felt that spark again and really wanted to dive back into editing and publishing. In 2020, I listened to a ton of audiobooks (I love audiobooks!) and noticed how many authors release short stories or novellas about side characters between major books — authors like Karen Witemeyer, Kiera Cass, and Sarah J. Maas. That’s where the idea for Child of Secrets came from: four short stories told from Diane’s point of view from Child of Prophecy. I wrote two brand-new stories and rewrote two scenes from the original book through her eyes. And while I was working on them, my love for writing completely reignited — which made me even more excited to jump back into editing Child of Magic. |
