I didn’t originally plan to write this collection of short stories, but I kept feeling like Dariel’s story was incomplete. I really wanted to explore his point of view and give readers his full backstory — and the short stories ended up being the perfect way to do that.

Honestly, I had a blast writing them. It was so much fun diving into the darker sides of his character, and then walking through his redemption, guilt, and pain. Dariel has always been one of my favorite characters to write, and I was really happy with how the stories turned out.

At first, I was a little sad that the collection wouldn’t be available in print — but then I decided to create a full series compilation book instead, which was released in December 2023.
