I absolutely love audiobooks — I listen to books way more than I physically read them. I’m a pretty slow reader, but I listen at 2.0 speed, which makes getting through books so much faster (and way more fun).
I follow a lot of fellow authors on Facebook, and one day I saw a post about ACX — the platform that helps turn books into audiobooks. I was instantly excited and started researching it. I set up my account, opened my books for auditions, and listened to several narrators try out. Some were great, some not so much — but I knew I really wanted one narrator who could stick with all my books. Then I received an audition from Maura Kelley, and I was blown away. We emailed back and forth a few times and quickly came to an agreement to work together. Since then, Maura has been narrating and producing my audiobooks, and I’ve already been able to listen to several of them. I’ve even listened to my first two audiobooks three times each because I love them so much (and honestly fall more in love with my stories every time I hear them out loud). Maura has been an absolute joy to work with, and I’m always excited when new audio files land in my inbox. What makes it even better is that she was specifically looking to work with an author who wanted one consistent narrator — and I was looking for exactly that too. We found each other on ACX, and I’m so thankful we did. I also have two audiobooks narrated by the amazing Jeannie Hawks — and I highly recommend both! More recently, I’ve also started experimenting with ACX’s Beta Voice Replication and working with Louise Cooksey as the narrator’s voice. It’s been really fascinating to see how technology is opening up new possibilities in the audiobook world. Being able to use a replicated voice that still sounds natural and engaging has helped speed up production while keeping the storytelling experience consistent for listeners. It feels like a glimpse into the future of publishing, and I’m excited to see how this tool continues to grow and improve. |
